The Many Benefits of Steel Construction in Buildings

If you plan on building a new storage facility, office building, or virtually any type of commercial structure, using steel construction will help it to last longer and more easily withstand the forces of nature and other factors.
Steel has been widely used in the construction of American buildings since the early 20th century, when it was used to help build the new skyscrapers that sprang up following the Great Chicago Fire. Since then, steel has been considered the be-all, end-all of commercial construction materials. Here are some of the many benefits of steel buildings.
--It is non-combustible: When fire laid waste to Chicago, engineers and architects looked for non-combustible materials that could be used in the framing of all new construction. Steel is non-combustible and therefore fire-resistant.
--Low maintenance costs: Because of its hardiness as compared to wood, buildings made using steel construction require much less ongoing maintenance.
--It is stronger, more durable, and more stable than any other type of construction material. Steel is, of course, completely impervious to the destructive forces of termites and other insects that rely on wood. It is also much more likely to withstand the effects of hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, and other natural disasters.
--It is environmentally-friendly since its manufacture requires no cutting down of precious forests, and all steel materials can be recycled and reused.
--It is a more cost-efficient construction material since buildings using steel can be erected much faster than their wood counterparts.
These are just a few of the many benefits of using steel construction for commercial buildings and even living spaces: steel literally continues to revolutionize the building construction industry and promises to continue doing so for many years to come.
