  Red Dragon Miniature

The Specialized World Of Miniatures

by Victor Epand

There are some role playing games where you play with the help of miniatures on any series of maps. These games are built around a series of skirmishes that take place in a given location. The game setup pits two players against each other, each controlling one side of a warring army. They fight the battle out in the mapped location and whichever player wins the battle will win the game. The game itself has become rather popular, with sales growing into the millions. It is actually the second-highest selling product of the company who manufactures the game.

The skirmish works well for two players who are looking for just a quick game without having to get involved in the entire world of dungeons and dragons. A Dungeon Master is not needed for a miniatures skirmish game, meaning that game play can continue much faster than a traditional D&D game. The traditional battle rules have been simplified, allowing to players to accomplish more in one turn than they ever could before.

The game takes place on any number of boards, or maps which are made of tiles, which represent a five square foot area. The starter set will usually include a basic map allowing for game play, but any number of locations can be purchased in fantastic location expansion books. These books will set out a new type of adventure book, giving a new storyline and even potentially a special set of rules to play by as well as four additional maps to play on. Three of these maps are always legal for tournament use, while the fourth map will provide a great location for fun or role-playing use.

The miniatures themselves are available in collectible packs, with collectors finding certain pieces by random. Each piece is given a level of availability, with some pieces being commonly found, others are uncommon, and then a select few pieces are deemed to be rare. The more rare that apiece is, the more valuable it is, both within the game and its worth in real life. Different sets offer collectors the chance to get a number of different pieces.

Most sets are released with 60 different pieces at a time, with a mix of those pieces being rare, uncommon, and common. They can boost the number of pieces that any collector can use within the game, making each game have a great potential for any number of things to happen.

Additionally, booster packs are available, which offer collectors the chance to buy a smaller number of miniatures to add to their collection. These booster packs are most often related to any of the certain sets that were released, giving collectors the chance to know what the general types of miniatures that they might be buying are. This allows any of the players a chance to craft an army based on certain sets, which they happen to prefer more than others, and allows each player to customize the game as they see fit.
